SOLARrooftops

This application was created to enable residents and businesses in Philadelphia to determine the solar potential of their rooftops.  For each building, you can see a conservative estimate of potential electricity production and an estimate of suitable rooftop area for panel installations.  Check out the Getting Started tab to see all the tools you can use to interact with the map, including the ability to view License & Inspections permit information and change the basemap to see our latest aerial imagery.

If you’re interested in pursuing solar on your building, here are some useful resources and programs:

  • Solarize Philly is a citywide program to help all Philadelphians go solar at home.  The Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) launched Solarize Philly to make the process of installing solar as easy and affordable as possible, while also supporting solar training at the School District of Philadelphia and improving access to clean energy for all neighborhoods.
  •
  • Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) Solar Customer Resource Portal outlines options for going solar, what to look for in an offer, questions to ask a solar company, your rights, and more.

This application may be a useful tool as an estimate, but local solar installers can help you take the next steps to assess your rooftop for a solar panel installation:

  • SEIA’s EnergySage Marketplace is a platform to get quotes online from multiple, pre-screened local installers and compare quotes in an apples-to-apples way so you get the best deal.
  •
  • The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) provides a list of its certified solar installers (search by state and certification type).
  •
  • The Sustainable Business Network of Philadelphia provides a Sustainable Business Directory where you can find energy-related businesses under the Energy category.
  •
  • Green Building United’s Hub is a searchable database of energy efficiency and sustainability companies that provide services throughout the Greater Philadelphia area, Lehigh Valley, and State of Delaware.
